The Canada Excellence Research Chair in Light-Matter Interactions (CERC-LM) is pleased to share an upcoming seminar hosted by the Groupe des Couches Minces (GCM) at Polytechnique Montréal and Université de Montréal.
On October 26, Ana Martina Botti, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Université de Montréal, will present a seminar entitled:
Skipper-CCDs: Ultra-Low-Noise Imaging Technologies for the Next Generation of Scientific Instruments
Charge-coupled devices (CCDs) have played a central role in scientific imaging and astronomy for decades. In this talk, Professor Botti will discuss the development of skipper-CCD technology, which enables multiple non-destructive measurements of the same charge packet and achieves unprecedented sub-electron resolution. She will highlight applications ranging from direct dark matter detection and coherent neutrino scattering to astronomy and quantum imaging, with a particular focus on the SENSEI experiment, the first dark matter search to deploy skipper-CCDs.
Professor Botti recently joined Université de Montréal after leading research efforts at Fermilab. Her current work focuses on developing ultra-low-noise semiconductor detector technologies for applications in particle physics, astronomy, and quantum science.
